Feeder Insect Care & Gut-Loading Guide

Dubia / Discoid / Madagascar Roaches

• Store in dark, ventilated container with egg crates. Ideal temp: 80–90°F.
• Feed dry gut-load foods (grains, leafy greens) 24 hours before use.
• Hydrate with carrots or water crystals. Clean Bi-Weekly. Avoid standing water.

Crickets

• Store in tall bin with ventilation and egg cartons. Temp: 75–85°F.
• Gut-load with grains and greens.
Hydrate with carrots, water crystals or gel.

Mealworms & Superworms

• Store in oats or bran bedding.

Feed with carrots, squash, or sweet potatoes.

Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL)

• Do not require gut-loading. Calcium-rich by default. Refrigerate to slow growth.

 

What is Gut-Loading?

Gut-loading is feeding insects a high-nutrient diet 12–24 hours before giving them to your reptile.

This maximizes the nutrition your pet receives.

Think of it as pre-loading their food with goodness.
